Dear HFCA Supporters,
My name is La’Neaja, and I am eager to share my journey with you.
As an eighth grader, I often rode the bus past the old HFCA High School building, which is now the middle school. Each time I passed, I felt a growing desire to attend HFCA. Although I initially planned to go to an all-girls school, I yearned for a more diverse high school experience. My mom and I visited HFCA several times to navigate the application process, and even though I started a month later due to a prior enrollment in another high school, that time allowed me to genuinely reflect on my aspirations for the future.
As a freshman at HFCA, my experience has been reminiscent of middle school but enriched by a sense of community. Instead of the larger, more crowded environment I anticipated, I have come to truly value HFCA’s intimate atmosphere. The smaller class sizes foster deeper interactions, making me feel supported and connected with my peers. One of my favorite classes is African American History with Ms. Morrow, which has broadened my perspective. I also enjoy the challenges of Algebra; it encourages my academic growth. Currently, I maintain a 3.8 GPA, and I am striving to reach a 4.0 by the end of the semester.
I am actively engaged in the Majorette Club and the Pearls Girls Club. While I considered joining the Robotics Club, I decided to concentrate on my current responsibilities to ensure I excel academically. Although I participated in various sports in middle school, I chose to prioritize other commitments this year. Initially, I served as the manager for the Majorette team, but my passion led me to join as a dancer, which has been an inspiring journey. The Pearls Girls Club has significantly contributed to my personal development, engaging us in discussions on anger management and relationship-building while creating a fun and welcoming environment focused on anti-bullying and friendship.
Outside of school, I have a passion for hair and nails. My career aspirations include becoming a real estate agent while pursuing cosmetology on the side. I dream of attending Alabama State University. As the firstborn and only daughter on my dad’s side, with four younger siblings, and the youngest on my mom’s side, family plays an essential role in my life. My mom is my greatest motivation, inspiring me to make the most of my teenage years. Additionally, I am a dedicated advocate for mental health, both for myself and others.
I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead during the next three years of high school and look forward to seeing how my hard work and your support will help me grow. Thank you for being an integral part of my journey.
Sincerely,
La’Neaja
