Some moments remind you just how far a dream can go when an entire community believes in it. This week, our CEO represented Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy on a national stage in Miami, delivering our $1 million pitch to the Yass Prize judges and speaking with WISN-TV and WTMJ Radio about the bold future we are building for Milwaukee’s young people and the idea at the heart of our work, changing the algorithm on excellence.
HFCA is one of just 23 Yass Prize contenders nationwide and the only school in Wisconsin at this stage. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to providing an education that empowers students to thrive, innovate, and lead.
The Yass Prize celebrates Sustainable, Transformational, Outstanding, Permissionless (STOP) education. This is exactly the kind of education we are committed to at HFCA, where students can dream bigger, lead boldly, and shape their own futures.
Every session and connection at the Yass Prize Accelerator reinforced one clear truth: the future belongs to the courageous. Our CEO had the opportunity to learn, connect, and refine our $1 million pitch while growing alongside other changemakers. With guidance from Caroline Allen, Chief Program Officer at the Yass Prize, and Jeanne Allen, Founder & CEO of the Center for Education Reform, HFCA gained valuable insight to scale our impact and share our approach with schools and communities across the country.
The Accelerator was also a space to exchange ideas, learn from other innovators, and continue honing the strategies that make our school a place where students can thrive. It has been an inspiring reminder that collaboration, courage, and dedication can turn ambitious ideas into reality.
But this journey is not just about one person or one pitch. It reflects the power of a community coming together. Our students show up ready to grow, our staff pours their heart and talent into each day, our families trust us with their children’s futures, and our donors and partners across the city invest in something bigger than themselves.
It is because of this collective effort that opportunities like the Yass Prize are possible. It is because of this support that we can continue dreaming bigger, taking steps every day to build a more equitable and transformative education for Milwaukee’s youth.
What’s next
The Yass Accelerator and final pitch in Miami are complete. Now we wait to see the results. In December, Lynk will travel to Washington DC to learn the outcome and see who will be named the winner. Meanwhile, HFCA continues pushing our mission forward, building systems that give students the freedom to dream, lead, and create their own futures every single day.
This week was incredible, yes, but it is also a reminder that our work is just getting started.
Thank you for believing in what is possible. Thank you for pushing forward with us. Every step we take together brings us closer to turning big dreams into reality.
