Join Us for HBCU Week & Ensure 100% Attendance on Count Day on Friday, September 20!

We’re excited to announce that the week of September 16 through 20 is dedicated to celebrating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) at HFCA. We have a variety of educational activities planned to enrich our students’ understanding and appreciation of HBCUs.

Dress Code Update: For this special week, students are permitted and encouraged to wear HBCU shirts each day to show their support and spirit.

Special Events:

Virtual Panel Discussion: On Thursday, September 19th, we have an exclusive virtual panel featuring distinguished HBCU graduates who will share their experiences and insights with your students.

Festive Friday: September 20th is not only the end of HBCU Week but also a crucial day for our school—Count Day. This day determines our funding levels from the state. To make it a day to remember, we will have raffles for students with perfect attendance throughout the week, enjoyable games, and a few special surprises!

Why is Friday Critical?

It’s essential we achieve 100% attendance on Count Day to secure the necessary funding to continue offering the exceptional academics, electives, and support HFCA is known for. Your participation is vital.

Please make every effort to ensure your child is present at school on Friday, September 20th, and encourage them to take part in all the week’s activities.

Thank you for your support in making HBCU Week a success and for helping us ensure all students benefit from the enriching environment at HFCA.

A Message from Principal Smith

Hello Families!

I am so happy to be reporting to you live from the conclusion of the 4th week of school! Today was a week of PRIDE. Our core values are Purpose, Responsibility, Integrity, Drive, and Excellence all rooted in Love. And those values were on display in full this week. We showed Love at our Back to School Night and our students vs staff basketball game. We showed Purpose by celebrating students with 100% attendance during Morning Meeting on Friday. We showed Responsibility by reporting in uniform and turning in our cellphones. We showed Integrity by by serving the detentions we earned by reporting to class late. We showed Drive by studying for our quizzes and submitting assignments before the due dates. We showed Excellence by demanding a lot of each other on the road To and Through College. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for your students and family as we continue to build upon our successes at the start of the school year!

ACT Test on Tuesday, September 17

All students grades 9-12 will take their first ACT of the school year on Tuesday, September 17th. This is a critical step in the process on the Road and Through College and we are so excited to see our students scores and to provide them with the targeted support they need to grow their scores. Strong ACT scores are the most effective way to gain access to the most meaningful scholarship opportunities and is a core part of our support for students! Please ensure that your student is here on time with their charged chromebook at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
