Dear HFCA Supporters,
When Malayshia first heard about HFCA, it was through her mom. “She told me it was a good school with strong academics, and that it would push me to be my best,” Malayshia remembers. As an 8th grader, she shadowed at HFCA, and something clicked. “I came here many times before, and I knew this was the school where I wanted to spend the next four years.”
Now in her first semester of high school, Malayshia is already proving she made the right choice. She has embraced her classes, found a role model in Ms. Morrow, and discovered what it means to be part of a community that truly lifts each other up. “Ms. Morrow treats me like her own,” Malayshia says. “She makes me feel cared for, and that helps me focus on being the best version of myself.”
“Academically, I’ve gotten better at focusing and learning how to process information. Personally, I’ve learned that it’s okay to just be myself,” she adds with confidence.
Malayshia’s dreams reach far beyond the walls of the classroom. She wants to earn a scholarship to play basketball in college, study mathematics, and one day make it to the WNBA. Inspired by her uncle, she also sees herself becoming an entrepreneur, creating multiple streams of income and building a future where she can give back. “I used to go to work with him, and it was always fun. I want to be like him,” she says.
Outside of the classroom, Malayshia can be found at the gym working on her jumpshot or in the neighborhood playing football and basketball with friends. She lights up when talking about summer afternoons outdoors.
Her story is one of growth, confidence, and big dreams. Every day, Malayshia is taking steps toward the future she imagines because of the opportunities created through your generosity.
Thank you,
The HFCA Team
