Dear HFCA Supporters,
My name is Darwin, and I am a student at HFCA. I first became familiar with HFCA through my older brother, who encouraged me to choose this school over others. Ultimately, I decided on HFCA.
My freshman year at HFCA was a great experience. I made new friends, found the workload manageable, and appreciated the structured schedule. The teachers were always willing to help, which made the transition easier. I formed a strong bond with Mr. Freeman, who is currently pursuing his master’s degree. He could relate to my experiences and played a big role in helping me succeed.
As a sophomore, I took on leadership roles, including leading the Morning Meeting student support meetings, where I trained six students to be ambassadors during our Friday morning meetings. These meetings highlight upcoming events and recognize students for their achievements. I also joined the robotics team, where I worked as a coder, assisted with building, and tested programs to ensure they ran smoothly. Additionally, I participated in track and field, competing in the 100-meter dash.
In my junior year, I pursued my passion for photography, something I had been interested in since fifth grade. I love capturing images, especially of nature. This passion has grown into a business, where I take photos for events like baby showers. I promote my work on Instagram and am open to doing engagement and wedding photography as well. Around this time, I also started seriously thinking about college and decided I wanted to pursue art and photography at the collegiate level.
Now, in my senior year, time is flying by. It’s daunting to realize that soon I’ll be stepping into adulthood, but I’m excited for what’s ahead. I have already been accepted to MATC and am awaiting a response from UW-Milwaukee. My ultimate goal is to build a career in photography, but if I decide to take a different path, the military is my second option. I was inspired by my grandfather, who served for many years and was able to save enough money to own a McDonald’s franchise, which he still operates today.
Outside of HFCA, I am just like any other young adult. I love spending time with family and friends, pursuing photography, and staying active in track. Cooking is another passion of mine, inspired by my mom and grandfather, who introduced me to authentic southern soul food. I am also open to exploring different cuisines. In the future, I hope to travel the world, capturing breathtaking moments to share with the public.
I have always been service-oriented and enjoy helping wherever there is a need. I strive to be a positive role model for my peers by practicing kindness and demonstrating leadership in everything I do.
I am incredibly grateful for the support I have received from you, HFCA supporters. Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today. As I prepare for graduation and the next chapter of my life, I truly appreciate everything HFCA has given me.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Darwin
